A vintage copy of Chicot the Jester, by Alexandre Dumas, author of The Man in the Iron Mask, Count of Monte Cristo, Three Musketeers…you know the man.

Chicot the Jester is a romance, set in the court of King Henri III. This story is also known as “La Dame de Monsoreau.”

Hardbound with red cloth covers, decorative spine in gold, decorative art nouveau title pages. Published by Dutton as part of the “Everyman” series. 464 pages.

Good condition, the spine is slightly weak but with care you can certainly read and enjoy this book.

Thrilled to learn that a movie about Hypatia, “Agora”, with Rachel Weisz as Hypatia, will be released December 18th. Below are two of my vintage editions of Charles Kingsley’s 1853 fictionalized novel Hypatia, or New foes with an Old Face.

I love an epic period film, and the subject of Hypatia is close to my heart. Having a life-long appreciation of Egyptian history, I was horrified when at an early age (11 or so) I read how Hypatia was brutally murdered by an angry mob incited by “Saint” Cyril of Alexandria. It was that act that is the reason behind why I shun organized religion.
